'I feel like he has chosen us, and I hate to shut him out': Couple dreams of adopting a friendly stray, only to discover the cat is the neighbor's outdoor explorer

This couple had just moved into their very first home when a fluffy visitor began making daily appearances in their garden. At first, the cat was shy, but soon he turned on the charm and his purrs. Worried about how thin he looked, they offered him some chicken, which he gobbled up like he hadn't eaten in days. Naturally, they assumed he was a stray and started feeding him, quickly becoming his chosen hoomans.

However, a trip to the vet, revealed a twist in the tail: the friendly feline wasn't homeless at all. He actually belonged to the neighbors, who explained that with three dogs in the house, their cat preferred the great outdoors. They even provide food and bedding for him in an outhouse, though he seems far more interested in sneaking through this couple's doors and windows instead.

Now they're caught in a classic cat conundrum. On one paw, they adore him and feel he's chosen them. On the other, they don't want to upset the neighbors. Either way, this whiskered wanderer clearly knows how to work the purrsuasion game.

It might be worth asking the neighbors if they’re okay with you looking after him. Since he clearly loves your company, they might appreciate knowing he’s getting extra care and attention.
